A state-of-the-art service hub spanning 783 square meters is taking shape in Frankton’s Remarkables Park, heralding a new era for the Salvation Army’s operations. This purpose-built facility is designed to house all Salvation Army services on the ground floor, with collaborating social services on the first floor, alongside a well-equipped auditorium.
Reflecting on the pre-Covid landscape, Mat Begg, the Trust grant manager, revealed that Queenstown’s Salvation Army was already grappling a staggering 300% increase in demand . This surge introduced hundreds of individuals to Salvation Army services for the first time. Begg emphasised that the new facility is a strategic move to streamline service delivery, addressing challenges such as exorbitant rents and inadequate facilities in the region.
With an eye on community needs, Frankton was chosen as the hub’s location to ensure proximity to families already receiving support. The hub aims to simplify access by consolidating all services under one roof. The building will host all the Salvation Army’s community services, including social workers, counsellors, migrant support counsellors, and financial mentors. It will also house Frankton’s very first and much-needed food bank.
The comprehensive hub features not only an auditorium but also offices, multipurpose rooms, and a Salvation Army family store. The family store serves a dual purpose by contributing to the building’s maintenance costs and providing essential items like clothing and bedding to clients in need.
